Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)
Patients inhale nitrous oxide through the mouth and nose. This medication calms patients even though they remain awake and are able to communicate. This form of dental sedation also tends to lessen anxiety, increase pain threshold, reduce gag reflex and make time pass more quickly.
Oral Sedation
Your dentist can prescribe oral sedatives in liquid or pill form. This medication is taken orally before your dental appointment. While it will leave you awake for the procedure, its calming effect will significantly relax you.
