Keep your smile healthy and prevent dental issues by booking regular oral examinations and hygiene cleanings with our dentists at Cor-Dent Dental Centre.
Ideally twice a year, you'll visit your dentist for a regular oral exam. This gives our team the chance to identify any oral health issues and develop a treatment plan.
During your exam, your dentist will closely examine the condition of your teeth, bite and jaws. Exams may also involve taking dental X-rays, an oral cancer screening and any other diagnostic procedures that may be required.
Oral Cancer Screening
Any part of the mouth or surrounding tissues can be impacted by oral cancer. During your exam, your dentist will inspect your face, lips, tongue, tissues, gums, throat and neck for any signs of oral cancer, which can be difficult to detect with the naked eye.
Oral Health Care at Home
Remember to brush your teeth twice a day for two minutes each time and to floss at least once per day to keep your smile healthy between dental appointments.
Before or after your exam, your dental hygienist will do a deep cleaning of your teeth and gums to prevent and treat oral disease.
To start, a scaler is used to remove any plaque build-up or tartar before the dentist polishes your teeth with coarse toothpaste to remove any remaining stains or plaque. This will be followed by a thorough flossing of your teeth and gums to conclude your visit.
Are you or your child at high risk of tooth decay? Your dentist may also recommend a fluoride treatment. Fluoride is a natural mineral which can help to rebuild the minerals in your tooth enamel to reverse or prevent tooth decay and keep your mouth healthy.
